can doctors test for growth hormone through a blood test? or do you need to take some other kind of test?

when my daughter was tested for her GH levels it was blood tests. 8 blood samples were taken over a 4 hour period (so once every 30 mins). it was 9yrs ago when she was tested so it may be different now
