16 years old and 5′ 2”, should I take Human Growth Hormone (HGH)?

Is it legal for a doctor to give me Human Growth Hormone even though I do not have a disease and I just want to be taller? My mom is 5′ 3”, so its in my genes. I’ve heard that if I am going to take hormones to increase my height I must do it now, there is not way to increase height once you’ve reached adulthood. Is HGH safe as long as it is administered by a doctor?

Why do you want to be taller? The average height for a woman in the U.S. is almost 5′4" and the average weight is 164 lbs. And in my opinion 5′2" is a great height to be. I’m 5′8" and if I were to wear high heals I would tower over everyone! You could wear any heals and you would look perfect. I don’t know anything about taking HGH. But it doesn’t sound healthy to me. There is a surgery they do in china where they cut the bones in your leg and insert I think some type of metal and then your bones grow into them. It takes a lot of time to heal but I think it gives you about 4 more inches. I wouldn’t recomend it though. It looks so painful! And you are only 16. You may still grow. I grew about an inch and a half when I turned 19. I wouldn’t worry about it too much. I think we all just have to learn how to feel comfortable in our own bodies and love ourselves the way we are.

DONT DO IT!! There is nothing wrong with your hight at all!! I’m just a little under 5′4. Being short is better than you think. :) But seriously, it’s not worth it.

  • Erin:

NO NO NO…so bad for your body and health. Please do not take HGH.

Sometimes you just have to accept who you are. At 16 you’re not finished growing (I grew 2 inches after leaving high school). You don’t stop growing until you’re 25. Be patient. HGH can cause all kinds of additional problems.

  • GURU 22:

    nah that stuff is bad

  • Rachel D:

I would not advise you to do that because you are only sixteen and still may be growing. I’m not sure if it is legal or not, but talk to your doctor about it. Maybe go to therapy to be happy with who you are, a healthy, maybe short, happy human being that is disease free.

  • Jen <3:

Don’t! I’m 5′2 and I’m 20 yrs. old. If you have insecurities with your height a pair of high heels can easily fix that.

  • xourtney:

    I’m 22 and 5′3"
Most of my family is around 5′8"

Women stop growing around age 21, so you might get a few more inches in coming years. I went from 5′1" to 5′3" between 16 and 21.

I think you should just enjoy wearing high heels without towering over your date. ;)

if your doctor says that its okay, than why not. trust the doc. lol
i know how you feel. i’m like 5′2" without shoes on and all i want to be is like 5′6"… everyone in my family- my parents, all 4 of my grandparents, and all 3 of my siblings are 5′11" and taller. i am the shortest and i dont know why… i think maybe coffee and cigarettes stunted my growth :(
i was even considering the plastic surgery where they break your bones and allow them to heal… after doing it a few times, it makes you taller. its pretty pathetic..
i didnt even think of HGH as an option… but im too old for it now :(
    Good luck!

    no, no, and no.
The hormones can do other problems. You are cute and pretty and beautiful. Be happy because you are healthy.

  • netsbrood:

AAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!! O sweety, don’t do that. I am short, about ‘3 and I k now it can be…..hard btu you don’t want to put growth hormones in your body. That is so bad for you and it just foreign. You are going to be what you are going to be. Putting a substance in your body is not the right way to handle this, plus there is nothing wrong with being petite. I actually think it is feminine to be petite…can you think of it that way? Please think this through. Plus there is no guarentee you are going to end up 5′6 in the end.

  • Yunie:

    HGH is basically a steroid.
Even if a doctor administers it, it’s still unnatural. There is NOTHING wrong with being short. I’m 17, and shorter than you are. You’ll gradually grow for another few years, and unless you seriously want to be a model, don’t worry about it!

  • emily M:

Ask your doctor I have a friend that took them and he ended up fine, but 5′2" isn’t really a height to take them at. Sure it’s short, but it’s not that short.

  • Tony H:

Nah!! You’re still growing..you will be taller by the time you’re 21 on your birthday. Just let yourself grow.. eat healthy food, take vitamins, exercise daily. HGH should not be taken because your private part will shrink just like testesticles.

  • skcsarah:

do you really want to go through shots every day for just a couple of inches?
from how I understand it… growth hormones only work if you’re own hormones aren’t working aren’t working and you’re shorter than your intended height. you’re 5′2"… it’s probably all the growing you’re going to get and overloading your body with extra hormones doesn’t sound like a good idea nor does it seem like it would work considering that there’s no way to make yourself taller then your genetics will alow.
